9 Telltale Signs You Are Addicted to Blogging

  1. Blog Photos Are the First Priority - All the photos/video you take are taken with your readers in mind. The amusing photo of the baboon's butt at the zoo makes it onto your camera, but sadly baby's fun in the bath just isn't blog-worthy enough.
  2. You Do Blog Post Brainstorming Anytime, Anywhere - You think about blog post ideas in the shower, on the toilet, brushing your teeth, in the swimming pool, on walks, whilst cleaning the bathtub or pretty well anytime anybody lets you have a thought to yourself.
  3. You Have a Handy Dandy Notebook - You never go anywhere without a pen and notebook or your digital camera, just in case inspiration hits or that priceless photo opportunity arises.
  4. Conversation is Affected - You start all your conversations with, "I read a post about..." or "Sara over at Sara Blogs did that very same thing the other day..."
  5. Your Browser Tells On You - The website for your hit counter is the top entry on your browser's cache, so all you have to do is hit "www." and that website address pops up. (Yes, I know that I could put it in my favourites, but I am trying to delude myself into thinking that I'm not all about the stats.)
  6. You Have an Overambitious Google Reader - Your Google Reader has more than 1000+ unread posts, because you keep following people's blogs with the intention of going back to read some more of their stuff, but never do. (I do read a lot of blogs, but I have some favourites that I go back to all the time, and I tend to use my blog roll to access those)
  7. You Have Delusions of Grandeur - You get a great sense of achievement when you feel you have written a good blog post, and you are over the moon when your readers enjoy it as much as you did. You suddenly imagine book deals, fame and fortune.
  8. You Feel More Blogging Role Models Are Needed - You've read Julie & Julia; Eat, Pray, Love (not about blogging, but a personal diary-style book) and watched Motherhood, and you wish there were more books/movies about bloggers.
  9. Your Family Life is Affected - Your family start calling you by your pen name.
So do you have any quirks that you can attribute to your love of blogging?

    1. What about compulsively checking your blog for comments. :-) I do that all the time.

I do all the things on your list. I think I might need counselling. The problem is made worse by my Twitter addiction. I think in hashtags and say 'I was chatting with/I know (insert famous or interesting person's name here) when I have simply traded a random tweet or two.

Can't wait to get to AusBlogCon and meet others with the same afflictions so that I can feel normal. :-)

      (Love your list).

    2. i was nodding most of the way down your list - i guess that means I'm addicted! even better though your list gave me some ideas for more obssessive things i'm not doing yet but will let me know how my blog is really doing LOL!

    3. I agree with Rachel - although I already do most of those things, I'm now thinking I need to read Eat, Pray, Love and buy myself a notebook!

    4. :) You make me smile...and you speak the truth...not that I have any of these signs you speak of but still, I'm sure other people experience this sort of thing. ;)

      Have a wonderful day!

Hugs from very snowy, cold Norway!

    5. Geez, I recognize myself in a few of these!!!! I'm constantly saying stuff like, "Oh, so I was reading this blog post today..." to friends who don't blog and they have no clue what I'm talking about.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to obsessively check to see if I'm on your blogroll...hahahaha!!!

    6. Me too!! Excellent list. One of my favs so far. Blogging is highly addictive - no two ways about that :)

    7. Erm. Ummmmmm.

Can completely relate to ALL of that. My kids now ask "what are you gonna say about that photo when you blog about it" - and its just a boring family pic :)

      *sigh*

Can I add another? When the people you meet find it weird when you are referred to by your real name. LOL

      I get that a LOT!

Thanks for the psychoanalysis this morning. Now I can go about my work .... xox

    8. Oh dear. My suspicions have been confirmed. I am definitely an addict!

      Can I add another?
You stay up until the wee hours of the morning writing a post or reading others blogs!!

    12. Oh, NO! I didn't realise I actually had a problem till I read this list, but I see myself in every item :(

Oh well.... no time for self-refelction, I have blogs to read.

    13. Mmmm, this is a perfect description of me. I think I need to go and do something else. Right now. After I finish retweeting your post, adding you to my overambitious Google reader and jotting down my next blog post idea..

      ReplyDelete
    14. Great list - I am guilty of quite a few of these...

    17. LOL... I am all for No.7. Can you tell how narcissistic I am? I don't even care if I have no readers or comments..I just go back to that same post over and over again..and marvel at my cleverness.

HAHAHAHAHAAH..and yes, when I talk to my husband..it's this blogger said this and that blogger said that..and he's like WTF???!!!

I really love your list!!! Totally!!

      ReplyDelete
    18. Yep, guilty!

I'll add another.... being late to collect children from school, because you want to read and comment on just one more blog before you go. Like now. Again. Damn it!

      ReplyDelete
    19. I'd have to admit to most of these. Another one would be - huge disappointment when noone reads those "brillian posts".

      ReplyDelete
    20. And all those things are a problem because? LOL.

      ReplyDelete
    21. I'm a blogaholic. Not that I'd admit to it!! Funny post x

    24. blogging is crack & i am a junkie. i get about 3 hrs less sleep than i really need most nights because i can't tear myself away. i think i'll start a blog about it & you guys can all come over & tell me how addicted you are & how you can hardly function irl anymore without thinking or speaking about the blogosphere.

      ReplyDelete
    25. *wipes forehead* Wooo! I don't think I'm addicted to blogging, but Hubby is always 'helping' me find photos for my photoblog. Does that mean he's addicted?!

      ReplyDelete
    26. OK OK! Yes, I will admit it to you because I scored a 9 out of 9 on your little test there. But I'm not admitting it to Hubs or anyone else.
#10 might be checking for comments after a great post, at least in my mind it was great, why doesn't everyone agree???
      Somebody stop me!!

      ReplyDelete
    27. You made me laugh with this one! Even my husband says, "that's one for your blog!" LOL!

      ReplyDelete
    28. Oh dear this cracked me up and I am truly guilty of several of these practises. I also am addicted to blog reading and so I have signed up to be your latest follower.
I seem to have no more 'normal' life and just existing in blogworld - suits me the people are nicer here.
      Warm wishes

    29. I do all of those things. Except instead of carrying around a note and pen I just text myself ideas I have for a blog post. Sometimes I even draw my pictures on paper before attempting to draw them on the computer. Nice post. Pretty well covered.

      I'm your newest follower. :)

    30. Ummmm.....I do have a little tiny notebook I carry and recently have been getting email addressed to my Blog name.

      Do I need blogging anonymous

      ReplyDelete
    31. Hysterical! I'm lazy with the stat checking and I blog mainly at work rather than home... but think I may be an addict!

I am so pleased that I'm on your blogroll as one of your 'go to's. I'm so proud!! x

      ReplyDelete
    32. Ha ha! Guilty guilty guilty! :)

      ReplyDelete
    33. My long-suffering family and friends have had to put up with not taking a mouthful of a meal before I photograph it!

      ReplyDelete
    34. Hilarious! Since I have been blogging for five years I have somewhat curbed my addiction. In fact what really cured me of the compulsion to blog was a stint at blogger rehab - you can see me talking about it here. Try it if it all gets to be too much!!!

      ReplyDelete
    35. Actually the video link is here. BTW the gin is optional :)

      ReplyDelete
    36. Checking comments, Facebook and Twitter during middle of the night breastfeeding. That's how I knew I was addicted.

      ReplyDelete
    37. Lol! This is a awesome post. I think I am definitely addicted to blogging.

Found you through Weekend Rewind Linkup

    38. Oh my gosh, this was classic! I hit on 7 out of the 9- sad.

My quirk is similar to one of yours but I don't follow blogs I bookmark them- always with the intention of going back and reading more. Well, I liked what I saw intially, right?! Anyway, I'm up to 54. Time to weed....

      ReplyDelete
    39. - When you read the list because you want to find one that disqualifies you from being addicted so you can prove to your family that you're not addicted

-When you stay up all night reading blogs and typing blogs and realize when you hear the rest of your family *waking up* that you've stayed up all night

-When you find yourself adding ways to tell you're addicted to the ways to tell you're addicted list, and see yourself considering it as your own possible topic

      - When you are still commenting on and reading blogs while hooked up to a nebulizer because you're having an asthma attack and can't breathe (no lie....)

      Back to that breathing thing........

      ReplyDelete
    40. Great list! I have to say that I am often heard saying "I wrote a post the other day..." We are a sad bunch! Thanks for Rewinding. I stumbled this x

    45. I'm so happy you wrote a post about being a blogaholic! My family haven't started calling me by my blog name yet. Maybe I should insist on it!
